Competition Entries and Draw

This page is used to manage players, events, and competitions, generate draws and apply competition formats.

1. Understanding the Layout

The page is divided into four main sections:

  • Events & Competitions (Left Panel): This is where you’ll see a list of all your created events and their associated competitions.
  • Players (Center Panel): This dynamic area displays players involved in the selected event and competition, or allows adding new players.
  • All Players (Right Panel): This is where you’ll see a list of all players that you have added in any of your events.
  • Available Formats (Right Most Panel): Here you’ll find the various competition structures you can apply, from simple knockouts to intricate group stages.

2. Managing Events and Competitions

  • Creating an Event:

    1. Click the ”+” button located at the top left corner.
    2. Enter the Event Name (e.g., “Chelmsford Closed 2025”).
    3. Click “Create”. Your new event will appear in the list.
  • Adding Competitions to an Event:

    1. Select the event you want to work with from the left panel.
    2. Click the ”+” button next to the event name.
    3. Enter the Competition Name (e.g., “Veteran Doubles,” “Women’s Singles”).
    4. Click “Create”. The competition will now be nested under your event.

3. Adding and Managing Players

  • Adding Players to the Player Pool

    1. Select the competition you want to add players to in the left panel (e.g., “Veteran Doubles”).
    2. The center panel will now be ready for player input.
    3. Type a player’s name into the “Type or select player…” field.
    4. If the player is new, press Enter or click “Create player: [player name]”. If the player exists, select them from the dropdown suggestions.
    5. Repeat this for all players in the competition. You can filter players by the first letters of their name to easily find them.
  • Viewing Player Details

    1. The players added to the selected competition will be shown in the center panel, grouped by divisions if applicable.

4. Applying Competition Formats

  • Choosing the Right Format:

    1. Select the competition you want to format (e.g., “Veteran Doubles”).
    2. In the “Available Formats” panel on the right, you’ll see a list of options.
    3. Click on a format to see a brief description (e.g., “Group 2 Knockout (bronze),” “Knockout 4”).
    4. Select the format that best suits your competition. You can choose between Knockout, Round robin, and Group stage with a knockout.
  • Applying the Format:

    1. Once you’ve chosen a format, click the Draw button it will bring up the Competition draw page.
    2. The center panel will update to reflect the structure of the chosen format.

5. Generating the Draw

  • Automatic Draw Generation: The application automatically generates the draw based on the selected format and the players added to the competition.
  • Manual Draw Editing: You can manually adjust the draw by dragging and dropping players to different positions. This is useful for seeding players or accommodating special requests.
  • Viewing the Draw: Once a format is applied and players are added, the draw will be displayed in the center panel. You can see group matchups, knockout pairings, and so on.

Important Notes:

  • You can easily switch between different events and competitions using the left panel.
  • The center panel always reflects the currently selected event and competition.
  • Make sure you’ve added all players before applying a format to ensure a complete draw.
  • Click ‘Save’ button to save the changes.
